I have lived my whole life with asthma and at times it becomes out of control. In the times that this has happened even my trusty inhaler does not seem to work 100% so I then rely on different home remedies. Tonight for instance, I made sure I sat up as straight as I could and drank a black coffee and took a tylenol for the chest pain.
Within about 20 minutes the wheezing and the pain began to subside. While I was waiting to return back to normaI I googled asthma home remedies and found a compiled list of new ones that I will absolutely be prepared for next time. These are the ones I wanted to share with you:
In case of severe asthmatic attacks, the following remedy can be used to get immediate relief. Take a ripe banana and warm it on a slow flame on the gas stove. Then sprinkle some black pepper on it. Eat this. This is a miraculous cure. Almost immediately, the pains will subside and there will be relief. However, this is not a method of treatment; the peppered banana will only help to allay the asthmatic attack.
If your asthma is in the preliminary stages, then you can use this remedy to stop it there and in fact heal it completely. Every night before going to sleep, chew on some black peppercorns. You can mix these with the leaves of the basil if you can get them; this will provide better benefits. Within a few moments, the asthmatic problems will subside and you will feel freer.
Take one glassful of limejuice in which some a teaspoonful of ginger juice has been mixed. This kind of lemonade-gingerade juice helps to relieve the asthma immensely, and it will also reduce the frequency of the attacks drastically.
Honey is considered to be one of the simplest and safest remedies for controlling asthma. Just holding a bottle of honey below the nose is sufficient to begin breathing freer and easier. If this does not work, then you can add two teaspoonfuls of honey to a glassful of milk. This, taken at night, will certainly work at preventing the onset of the asthmatic attacks.
An asthmatic patient must have about three to four dry figs each morning. Figs have the capacity of clearing the respiratory tract, due to which asthmatic attacks do not occur.
Drink plenty of liquids, say 8-10 glasses a day. This will help the secretions to remain loose.
The following are some of the risk factors which asthma patients must avoid:
(i) Avoid using perfumes.
(ii) During your asthma attack always sit up straight or bend forward. Never lie down.
(iii) Avoid food which can increase the chance of asthma attack Common foodstuffs that increase the chance of this are milk products, animal foods, or food that takes more than two hours should be avoided.
(iv) Take special care that your bedroom is free from allergen material.
(v) Dust your room often but not with broomstick instead if possible use a vacuum cleaner.
(vi) Wear a scarf round your mouth and nose during cold weather to be on the safer side. This will warm the air and prevent the cold air from entering in and reaching the sensitive airways
(vii) Use a plastic cover over your mattress and if possible wash this in hot water every week.
(viii) If you have an air conditioner than see to it that you change its filter periodically.
