Standing Ab-blaster! (That's right, I said STANDING!!) Stand with your feet shoulder width apart. Raise your right arm and point your fingers straight up at the ceiling with your palm facing inward. Keeping your hips square(not twisting), lift your right knee up to the side laterally, in an arc, until your quad(thigh) is parellel with the floor, at a 90 degree angle from your trunk. At the same time, pull your right elbow down in a lateral arc towards your knee, squeezing your abdominals (especially the obliques) as the elbow and knee come closer together- Remember to keep the upper body upright and straight throughout the movement. Return to starting position, just lightly touching the toe to the ground, and repeat the movement. Perform 15-20(or until your muscles are fatigued!) strong reps using perfect form and squeezing tightly with each rep. Repeat on left side. Much better than painful twisting which wreaks havoc on the lower back! |
